FIGHTING TALK: Idrissa Gueye says Everton can get out of trouble EVERTON are in with a great shout of climbing away from Premier League trouble – thanks to a dose of the verbals.

Idrissa Gueye has revealed that sidelined Seamus Coleman (right) is a regular visitor in the Toffees dressing room to have a good bawl about performances with the club plunging towards the danger zone. Captain Phil Jagielka and Wayne Rooney have had their say as well to give a stark reminder of the tricky job of steering Everton away from trouble.

And Gueye is upbeat that their team spirit will do just that, irrespective of the untimely speculation over who will be the new manager.

Caretaker boss David Unsworth continues where he left off in the Premier League with a tough trip to Southampton today on the back of picking up four points in Everton’s last two games.

And Gueye reckons they are definitely in with a shout.

He said: “We have to be ambitious and look forward. We have to believe in our team and know we can do it.

“We have a good club, a good atmosphere, good players and good fans. We have to do it.

“We have strong leaders like Phil Jagielka, Wayne Rooney and Seamus Coleman. Seamus can shout every time. We need it and I think we will come back.

“Seamus is the best example. He has great spirit even though he doesn’t play. He comes in every game into the dressing room and tries to talk to everyone.

“He is with the team every time and we need this spirit. You can hear his shouting. We try to keep the positive vibes because it is hard in this moment.

“When we are on the pitch we work hard to try to change this situation.

“And it’s not just about hard work. We can work hard just on the pitch but outside of the pitch we need to talk, to keep the spirit and stay like a team.

“Last season was great and this time it is tough for us. We work hard but are not getting the results.

“At the start of the season we thought we would be fighting for fourth or fifth place.

“We have good players but nothing is working. If we just start to win games we can start our season again.

“We believe we have the players to fight.”

Gueye, meanwhile, has backed team-mate Oumar Niasse, after he was caught up in an FA cheating row.

Niasse was banned for two matches after being found guilty on charges of “successful deception of a match official” when he won a penalty at Crystal Palace.

It is a bitter blow for Niasse and Everton – but Gueye believes his pal has come through tougher events in his life.

He said: “He is a good friend, a good player and we need him. We are very disappointed with the ban but we can’t do anything about it.

“But he has had more difficult times than this. He has a good mentality and I don’t think this is a problem for him.

“He is really disappointed because he wants to play but this is a very small thing for him.”
