Lossl’s colossal

-

JONAS LOSSL takes on the worst job in football today – facing Manchester City’s goal machine which has bulged the net 40 times so far this Premier League season.

The Huddersfield keeper, on loan from Mainz, has kept five clean sheets in

12 games and remains a confident guy. But the 6ft 5ins Dane will never have faced a bigger test of his handling skills than this afternoon.

Boss David Wagner, though, has no fears for Lossl as he stares down Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Kevin De Bruyne and the rest.

He said: “We all knew that he did not have his best season with Mainz last season. He was not at his best, like the whole team there.

“But I knew him before when he played in France. His performances were very strong there and this was the reason Mainz bought him.

“He is a very good shot-stopper, a very good goalkeeper and a Denmark international.

“I am very happy we made this decision. It was a free loan with no risk for us.

“A total of five clean sheets in 12 games speaks for itself I think.

“We are happy with him, even if we know it is only

November.”

But it has not been an easy ride for Lossl,

28, who was guilty of a real howler at Swansea in October when a poor pass out gifted a goal to Tammy Abraham in a 2-0 defeat. But Wagner is standing by his man and believes Lossl has shown strength in character and will not be overawed by City’s mighty strikeforce. He said: “He made two with his feet against Tottenham and one big error against Swansea.

“If I compare this to how often he helps us play out from the back and how often he kept the ball out of the goal with saves, then I think everything is okay. “I’m totally happy with what he’s shown so far.” STEVE MILLAR
