TO PHIL HIS BOOTS AT THE ETIHAD

-

and the captaincy of England Under-17s testimony to his eye-catching progress through the junior ranks.

Doyle said: “I have had two granddads who are City legends and I think that’s all I really want to be – a Manchester City legend. An England legend too.

“I would love to play hundreds and hundreds of games for City because that’s the team I’ve supported. It’s in my family and it’s the only team I want to play for.

“I have just got to keep working hard and stay focused because I don’t realise how lucky I am until I kind of think about things. It’s just remembering that I’ve got a really good chance and wouldn’t it be stupid if in 10 years I say I should have worked harder at that. I should have done this, I should have done that.

“I have to keep remembering that I have to work hard. Be humble. Stay focused. And hopefully I’ll get the chance. When I do I’m 100 per cent going to take it.

“It’s about your own personality. Doing an interview is never going to make you a footballer. Having a big house or car is nice but I just want to be a footballer.

“You know the hard work you are doing is paying off because people are recognising you. I just think it’s important that you remember you are doing well but remember, too, that you are nobody yet.

“You still have a lot of hard work and early mornings to wake up to before you get right to the very top.”

Doyle has already been called up by boss Pep Guardiola for a training stint with the first team and is working under the watchful eye of coach Brian Kidd.

He added: “I’m quite close to Brian. I know him through my grandads. He’s helped me out a lot.

“But I’ve got a lot of developing and progress to make before I train on the first team pitch every day.”
