Corrie David in male rape hell

-

CORRIE favourite David Platt will fall victim to a violent rape in a shocking new storyline, writes JIMMY McCLOSKEY.

David, played by Jack P. Shepherd, 29, wakes up after a boozy night out with new character Josh and realises he has been drugged and sexually assaulted.

The male rape storyline, Corrie’s first in its 57-year history, will then see

David, inset, struggling with shame over his ordeal and whether or not to report it to the police.

A Corrie insider said: “There won’t be any sexually explicit scenes. What has happened to David will be implied by his reaction and behaviour when he wakes up the next day and starts to remember some of what happened. With Josh still on the street, David struggles to deal with the shame of what has happened to him. This is a big storyline for Jack and everyone is determined to get it right.”

Corrie bosses are working with charity Survivors Manchester, who help male victims of rape and sexual abuse, to ensure the plot is handled sensitively.

It is estimated that 12,000 men are raped in Britain every year, with 70,000 sexually abused or assaulted.

David’s ordeal will be screened next year. His wife Kylie was murdered last summer.

The storyline is likely to upset fans who say the show is too gloomy. Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks has twice covered the topic of male rape, in 2000 and again in 2015.
