Powell and glory as Latics go four clear

-

WIGAN extended their lead at the top of League One to four points with a

2-0 victory over Fleetwood as nearest rivals Shrewsbury were held at MK Dons.

The Latics took the lead after just seven minutes as Nick Powell headed home before Dan Burn’s header doubled their lead.

Peter Pawlett looked like he had won the game for MK Dons with an effort 10 minutes into the second half but Shaun Whalley fired in a late equaliser to keep the Shrews in touch.

And Blackburn moved up to third after a lively 3-2 win at Peterborough thanks to Charlie Mulgrew’s header and a brace from Bradley Dack.

Steven Taylor had opened the scoring for the hosts while Jack Marriott pulled one back for Posh before team-mate Jack Baldwin was sent off.

Scunthorpe dropped to fifth following a 1-0 defeat at Walsall thanks to Kieron Morris’ winner and Bradford held on to edge a seven-goal thriller 4-3 at home to Rochdale, with four goals scored in a frantic five-minute spell just before the break.

Matt Kilgallon put Bradford ahead early on but it was Charlie Wyke’s

40th-minute header that brought the game to life, with Ian Henderson pulling one back a minute later and Dominic Poleon’s effort making it 3-1 before Henderson’s second reduced the deficit again.

Steve Davies equalised 15 minutes from time but Tyrell Robinson notched the winner as the Bantams moved up to fourth. A second-half own goal from Josh Magennis was all that separated the sides as Charlton lost 1-0 to Portsmouth, while Oxford stole all three points with a last-gasp winner from Josh Ruffels in a 1-0 home clash with Doncaster. Bristol Rovers eased

Southend 3-0 while Rotherham claimed a 2-1 comeback win at Blackpool. Oldham fired five past Northampton, who dropped to second bottom as a result of a 5-1 defeat at Boundary Park.

Jack Byrne (above) scored either side of Tope Obadeyi’s header to make it 3-0 at the break. Sam Foley pulled one back but further goals from Gevaro Nepomuceno and Craig Davies added the gloss.

Plymouth moved off the bottom with a 2-1 victory over Gillingham.
