FRIDAY’S UK MILLIONAIRE MAKER H L K H 6 5 3 6 5 & T L K J 1 1 5 9 6 NOEL GALLAGHER has paid Gary Glitter tens of thousands of pounds in royalties for two decades but could have stopped the pervert from earning cash.
He used Glitter’s chant Hello, It’s Good To Be Back at the end of Hello, the first track of Oasis’s biggest selling album (What’s The Story?) Morning Glory.
Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, was convicted of child pornography offences in 1997, two years after the album’s release.
Noel considered changing the tune so the shamed glam rocker would no longer get a writing credit and royalties.
But he left the track intact, leading to Glitter earning a fortune for more than 20 years as the album went on to sell almost 20million copies worldwide.
Noel said: “The first track on Oasis’ biggest album, one of the biggest albums in history, is a track called Hello where on the end we go into the Gary Glitter song, because it was a football track when we growing up.
“And the song is still credited to Gallagher and Gadd and whoever
“We were like ‘do we go back and remix the song and take it out – or what do we do?’”
Noel admitted Glitter had banked significant sums over the past two decades, adding: “He wouldn’t get so much these days, but it is still selling.”
Gadd, 73, is serving a 16year jail sentence for sexually abusing three girls.
