KANE SWITCHES TO DEFENCE

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by JOHN WARD

FOOTBALL superstar Harry Kane has had to step up security after becoming one of the world’s most sought-after players.

The Premier League goal machine has installed a state-of-the-art 6ft 7in gate to protect his multi-million pound mansion.

Club bosses urged the 24-year-old Tottenham and England striker to take extra precautions amid fears his popularity would make him a target for thugs and other criminals.

Until the barriers were put in place, anybody was free to walk straight up to the door of Harry’s Essex home.

Security chiefs at the club thought this was madness and ordered him to improve his house protection.

Kane became the highest scoring player in the world in 2017 – and is being linked to a record transfer to football giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

A source close to Spurs said: “Harry Kane has always been a top striker but he is down to earth and didn’t think the fuss about security was needed.

“But in the current climate the club’s security chiefs demanded he up the security on his home.

“Since beating the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the goalscoring charts he has become a global sensation. With such fame comes danger though as he could clearly be a target for lunatics now.

“So it is better to be safe than sorry to secure his home.”

Kane shares his pad with fiancée Katie Goodland, their 11-month-old child

Ivy Jane, and two labrador dogs, Brady and Wilson – named after NFL quarterbacks Tom Brady and Russell Wilson.
