In March, sport mourned the passing of John Surtees at 83 – the only man to win world titles on both two wheels and four, having won motorcycli­ng honours and the 1964 Formula One crown.

Tributes flowed in January after the death, at

72, of Graham Taylor, the football manager who took Watford to the First Division but lost out with England when his team was beaten in

1992.

Michael Bond, author of the Paddington books, died in June at the age of 91. After his first children’s book about a bear who loves marmalade sandwiches in 1958, Bond penned 27 more Paddington’ adventures, selling 35million copies. We also lost kids’ telly star John Noakes, with his beloved dog Shep right, known for his daredevil stunts on Blue Peter. John died in May at 83. Brian Cant, presenter of favourites including Play Away, died in June at 83.

Fans of classic Sixties TV show Batman were sad to hear its star Adam West had died in June, aged 88.

Over Beethoven, in March aged 90, and Fats Domino.

Fats, who died in October aged 89, defined the sound of the era with bluesy hits like Blueberry Hill.

Country star Glen Campbell passed away in August at 81, and David Cassidy, of The Partridge Family, died in November aged 67. Coronation Street lost two adored stars – Liz Dawn, left, who played hen pecking wife Vera Duckworth to the delight of audiences for 34 years, in September at 77, and Roy Barracloug­h, wily Rovers landlord Alec Gilroy, in June, at 81.

In June we lost film critic Barry Norman at 83, while TV host Keith “Cheggers” Chegwin, above right, died aged 60 earlier this month. BOOZE: Experts predict a big rise in sales of sherry. Another trend to look out for is dessert-inspired spirits such as red velvet flavoured vodka. FITNESS: Prama is set to be the top fitness fad. The class combines Twister and an arcade dance game. Just 45 minutes will burn 1,000 calories. FOOD: Offal is set to be popular because of increasing food prices. Stores also predict a rise in sales of purple veg such as sweet potatoes. HOLIDAYS: Retro destinatio­ns such as Malta, the Costa Brava and Madeira – all big in the 80s – will be back. NAMES: Harry, Noah and Oliver for boys, while it’s Olivia, Isla and Lily for girls. Look out for more gender neutral names such as Aubrey.

FASHION: It’ll be silk pyjamas for girls’ nights out, while for men white is the only colour to be seen in. Plastic jackets, shoes and hats will be trendy. SEX: Virtual reality tech will be big, with remotely controlled vibrators, sex robots that can simulate an orgasm and headsets that will take you straight to a hot tub with three babes. Charles Manson, the US cult leader who mastermind­ed nine murders in 1969 – bringing the Summer of Love to a bloody end – died in jail aged 83.

And Moors Murderer Ian Brady, who killed five children in the 1960s with lover Myra Hindley, died behind bars aged 79.

He had been held at a secure psychiatri­c unit since 1985.
