Sex toys sales are buzzing!
THE price of sex toys has tumbled in the past year as they move into mainstream stores, figures reveal.
While everything from baked beans to booze has been hit by price rises, adult toys are among the best bargains on the high street. Prices were down more than 5% in 2017.
The “sex devices” sector is among the few product categories to see a price fall this year, thanks to them moving away from seedy sex shops and into shopping centres.
And it’s more to do with Sexit than Brexit. Greater competition has led to price wars and a bigger range of adult toys and devices becoming available to a wider market.
The latest annual product review by trade journal The Grocer shows the saucy trolley fillers had the second biggest fall in price in 2017 – only the booming e-cigarette market saw larger price drops.
The Grocer’s review covers 114 product sectors and shows 93 have gone up in price, mainly due to the fall in the pound and factors like crop failures for some fruit and veg. It reported: “Baby and infant care, dairy and booze sectors are among the biggest contributors to a 2.1% hike in average prices.”
Supermarkets have also cut back on promotions and special offers so that deals such as BOGOF – Buy One, Get One Free – are no longer keeping prices artificially lower.
