Memorial to George is planned

-

SINGER George Michael’s headstone will not be put up for three more months.

We told last week how nine months on from the Wham! singer’s death, his only memorial is a small heart-shaped plaque reading: “Dear cousin, Beautiful memories treasured forever of the happy times we spent together.”

Now we can reveal George’s family will have a permanent headstone put in place in March – a year on from his funeral.

Fans who have visited Highgate cemetery in north London where George is buried have asked why his grave is still lacking a headstone.

But bereaved families are told to wait at least six months to put up headstones at the graveyard to give time for the coffin to sink into the ground.

Our source said: “George’s family are aware that if you put up a headstone too early – or even within six months of a burial – there is the risk it can fall forward as the ground has not been given sufficient time to settle.

“They also wanted time to think about the inscription that is going to go on the grave, which they are still mulling over.”

Careless Whisper singer George was found dead on Christmas Day last year, aged 53, at home in Goringon-Thames, Oxfordshire.

THE average Brit spent 40 hours on the sofa over eight days at Christmas.

Research shows the time was mostly spent sleeping after eating, watching a film or playing a board game.

But while over half of us didn’t even leave the house, 42% went on a Boxing Day walk of almost three miles.
