Mick splashes £500k on brother Chris’ 70th

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by JOE HINTON

MICK Jagger spent £500,000 on a wild two-day 70th birthday bash for his musician brother Chris.

The Rolling Stone, 74, laid on food, booze and accommodation for guests at the Sparkford Hall stately home in Somerset.

A source said: “Mick has always done something special for his brother, but this was a real blow-out as it was Chris’ 70th.

“It cost him a fortune to hire Sparkford Hall but that was the least of the expense. He paid for transport for guests, hired DJs and bands and had a really expensive catering company. Champagne and whatever booze you could think of was on tap.”

Our source added: “It was an old fashioned rock ’n’ roll-style bash but Mick didn’t party as hard as most. He was up until around 2am the first night then had an early one on the last night. Everyone loved it.”

But one reveller wasn’t quite so happy. Bob Geldof, 66, had to find a nearby hotel as there was no room available at the Georgian mansion, which sleeps 30.

Our source added: “Once he’d sorted himself out with a hotel room, Bob got into the party spirit with everyone else.”

The bash started on December 19, Chris’ birthday, with guests leaving early on December 21.

Chris was a journalist before launching his own musical career playing country rock.
