A GRAN who felt she was too podgy to party will step out in style tonight after losing 15 stone.

Gillian Jenkins, 57, hated celebrating over the festive season as the only clothes which fit her were baggy T-shirts and tracksuit bottoms.

At her largest she was a size 30 and weighed

24st 10lb. But after changing her lifestyle, Gill is looking forward to welcoming in 2018 while turning heads as a svelte size 10. She said: “It was like inside me there was a thin person trying to get out – there was always someone inside me screaming to be let loose. Here she is.”

Too embarrassed to go shopping for party clothes, and struggling to find anything she could squeeze into, Gill would spend New Year watching TV in her pyjamas while her family and friends went out.

She used to scoff multiple bacon butties before 10am, followed by a quarter pounder meal from McDonalds and then a cooked “breakfast” for dinner.

And she would drown desserts in a full pint of cream.

Gill, from Penarth, south Wales, said: “I don’t like cheese anymore and I wouldn’t touch cream. Now I’m aware of carbohydrates and nutrients in food.” When her daughter Helen, 32, said she was marrying, Gill decided things must change. The retail assistant said: “I was heading for a heart attack or a stroke.”

Gil began going to the gym, even though anxiety made her palms sweat at the thought of it. But she soon began to enjoy exercise and stopped snacking on biscuits, crisps and chocs. She said: “I lost 15 stone – as much as another person’s body weight.”

Her husband Nick, 62, thrilled by her new look. Gill revealed: “He’s really proud of me – but it’s cost him a fortune in clothes!”

She is now just 9st 12lb and lives on a diet of rice cakes and high-protein foods, having lost

65% of her weight.

Gill goes to the gym four times a week, does a Zumba class and works out with a personal trainer. She has even taken part in an Iron Man challenge and running races. She said: “I’ve got such a busy social life that I’ve never had before.” is
