SHREWSBURY are now just two points off top spot in League One following a 2-1 win at Southend.
The visitors were in front in the 18th minute when defender Ben Coker headed the ball into his own net before Ben Godfrey made it 2-0 five minutes before half-time.
The Shrimpers reduced the deficit with a header from Ryan Leonard after a corner in the 55th minute but the Shrews held on to cut the gap to leaders Wigan, who were held to a goalless draw at home by Charlton on Friday night.
Play-off contenders Blackburn and Scunthorpe drew 2-2 at Ewood Park.
Danny Graham bagged a double for third-placed Rovers but they were pegged back twice by Kevin van Veen and Conor Townsend.
MK Dons held out for a
1-0 home win against Peterborough despite ending with nine men.
Chuks Aneke scored just before the half-hour mark, either side of first-half dismissals for defender Joe Walsh and striker Osman Sow.
Bradford beat Oxford
3-2 at Valley Parade. Charlie Wyke, who was later sent off, put the Bantams ahead inside two minutes before Canice Carroll levelled things up in the 49th minute.
Bradford, though, were
3-1 in front after an hour through Shay McCartan and Timothee Dieng (below) while Jonathan Obika set up a tense finale with 15 minutes left.
At the other end of the table, bottom club Bury lost 2-0 to Fleetwood after goals from Ashley Hunter and Devante Cole.
AFC Wimbledon snatched a point from a
2-2 draw at Gillingham
thanks to substitute Harry Forrester’s
84th-minute equaliser. Elsewhere, Oliver Hawkins scored twice as Portsmouth came from behind to beat struggling Northampton 3-1 at Fratton Park, while Blackpool sub Viv Solomon-Otabor hit a stoppage-time equaliser to draw 2-2 at home against Plymouth.
Craig Davies equalised
18 minutes from time as Oldham drew 1-1 with Bristol Rovers at Boundary Park.
Meanwhile, Semi Ajayi and David Ball were the scorers as Rotherham won 2-1 at Walsall.
