Full Flow a bright new star for Kim

- ■ by JASON HEAVEY

TALENTED: David Bass steers Full Flow to victory for Kim Bailey TRAINER Kim Bailey has a potential new star on his hands with First Flow who crusied home at Newbury.

The five-year-old relished the soft ground with a facile front-running victory in the Betfred “Supports Jack Berry House” Introductory Hurdle.

After making a winning debut at Lingfield last month, First Flow had little trouble in doubling up yesterday coming home

20 lengths clear of Dell Oro. Bailey (below) said of the

6-5 winner: “He loves that ground and that is key to him. If it was fast ground he would not be running.

“He can float through that ground. He will be better when he goes over fences and goes over further.

“He is very similar to Harry Topper who have the same owners. He needs to put condition on as he is so narrow but that will come in time.”

Elsewhere at Newbury, Saint Calvados claimed victory on his first start in Britain with a decisive success in the Betfred “Racing’s Biggest Supporter” Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase.

Despite giving weight to all of his rivals, the Harry Whittington-trained four-year-old put in an assured round of jumping to cross the line nine lengths clear of Remiluc, who was the only other finisher.

Whittington said of the

7-4 chance: “He is talented and hopefully he will take us to some good places. He is just always in second gear at home.

“It is good now to see him do it on the track, especially on his first time over fences. He has been a natural when schooling at home, he has not put a foot wrong.

“He just cruised around on this ground. Aidan Coleman mentioned the Scilly Isles. We will let the dust settle as I’d never thought about it.”

Daklondike ended a lean spell for David Pipe by mugging the gallant Grand Vision late on in the Betfred Mandarin Handicap Chase.

Colin Tizzard’s almostwhite Grand Vision had led his rivals a merry dance, jumping with great enthusiasm for an 11-year-old.

Daklondike was one of the first off the bridle but Tom Scudamore kept at it and at the last he took over.

It was slow-motion stuff but Daklondike (6-1) prevailed by three lengths with Knockanrawley back in third. Scudamore said: “He’s one of those you’ve got to just keep on pushing and hope it comes right. “He’s really taken to chasing and for a five-year-old to do that today he’s improved 19lb already. “The way he’s done that you’d have to say he’s a National horse, whether that is the National or Midlands, I don’t know, but he’s progressing nicely. It’s a nice Saturday winner to have.”

Pipe said: “Tom gave him a fantastic ride, he definitely makes him earn his fee but he kept on responding.

“Long-distance chases are his thing – it probably wasn’t soft enough.”

Nayati showed a good attitude to strike in the Betfred “£5K BTO Cash Draw Today” Juvenile Hurdle at Newbury.

The 10-11 favourite made an instant impact on his first start for in-form trainer Alan King, getting the better of Kapdad. He was quoted at 25-1 by BetVictor for the JCB Triumph Hurdle.

King said: “He has only had two runs in his life and he is going to learn plenty.” BELLE VUE FANCIES
