Evans vowing that Stag-do will be fun

- By STEVE MORGAN

MANSFIELD boss Steve Evans has promised Cardiff City a hostile atmosphere awaits in their third-round replay.

Stags goalkeeper Conrad Logan produced a string of vital saves to keep the score at 0-0 and put his side into the hat for the next round.

It could have been even better for the League Two side had Alex MacDonald and Paul Anderson converted their chances to seal a famous victory at a near-empty Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff went close through Rhys Healey before Logan kept out what would have been a stoppage-time own goal from Krystian Pearce to earn a second meeting at Field Mill.

“I think the people of Mansfield and the supporters will turn out in big numbers,” said Evans.

“We want it to be a real hostile atmosphere with a real sporting nastiness.

“If we make it easy they have the quality to deal with us quite comfortably but we need to make it a hostile atmosphere.

“We’re unlucky not to be in the next round but I think Neil Warnock will say the same thing. We knew we were in the tie after 20 minutes and we had a real go.

“I’m only keen on replays if you win them, but it looks made for TV

– a possible cup upset and a manager like Neil Warnock going out of the FA Cup.”

Warnock believes he has reason to smile, despite going five matches without a win.

He said: “The game served its purpose today. We’ve had so many problems this week. Joe Ralls and Sol Bamba pulled out this morning suffering with sickness and Joe Bennett shouldn’t have played.

“Sean Morrison coming back is also a massive plus for us.”
