Versace’s slayer bid to kill Tom

-

THE serial killer who gunned down fashion icon Gianni Versace was targeting a second major celeb – actor Tom Cruise.

Evil Andrew Cunanan was “obsessed” with the Mission Impossible star, and even copied his screen costumes and characters.

Pal Michael O’Brien told of gay gigolo Cunanan’s chilling infatuation with Cruise following the US launch of TV crime drama The Assassination of Gianni Versace.

He said: “Andrew wanted to be Tom Cruise and often emulated him.

“Andrew would look in the mirror and pretend to be the characters Tom plays in his movies.

“He really believed that one day he and Tom might actually be together.”

The TV series tells how Cunanan killed four other men in three US states before shooting Versace, 50, outside his Miami mansion in July, 1997.

Cunanan went on his murder spree after learning he was infected with Aids. He shot himself eight days later as police closed in on him.

Spokesmen for Cruise and the Versace family declined to comment.
