Mo: I will make my Voice heard

- ■ by ED GLEAVE

LAST year’s The Voice winner Mo Adeniran has warned contestants they face a tough future.

A year after being voted the champion, he reckons people think he’s going to be a chart flop.

Mo, 22, told the Daily Star Sunday: “There can be a stigma when you win The Voice. I’m using that to motivate me. It fuels me. Everyone expects me to fail but I’ve just used that to drive me. It’s been the thing that’s pushed me the most. “I believe that I’m an artist. I feel I’m different from a lot of the other winners from The Voice. I’m hungry for it. I’ve put 100% effort into it. I feel like the end product, my music, should speak for itself.”

No acts from the past six series of The Voice have had long-term chart success.

Mo will release his debut single and album in March. But he said: “I don’t feel pressure. The album is about allowing people to see who I am as an artist. In the music I talk about a lot of the things that have happened in my life and the lives of people around me. “A lot of people have been through those things, like losing friends and stuff with family.

“I feel the music means I can connect with everyone. I want people to feel something, regardless of where it charts. Any success is down to how much you want it. I’ve put my all into it because music is what I love – it’s my passion. I feel the harder you work, the more beneficial it is for you.”

Mo was mentored on The Voice by Jennifer Hudson and she has stayed in touch. He said: “Jennifer’s been really supportive. She has been in contact, making sure I’m OK.”
