It’s cup upset for bosses
MAN CITY chief Pep Guardiola has joined forces with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in calling for a radical revamp of cup competitions in English football.
Klopp protested that there were too many games causing burn-out and wanted to see the FA Cup played in midweek.
City boss Guardiola agreed that there has to be a shake-up but revealed that the game’s rulers turned a deaf ear after a summer summit with managers.
Guardiola said: “Like Jurgen, and I think all the managers, I would like the Carbao Cup Semi-Final over one game and the FA Cup without replays.
“But that is not going to happen. We are going to play replays, extra time and extra, extra times. That is going to happen in the future.
“Can we do anything about it? Absolutely not.
“It is a business and the show must go on. Is it harming the players? Of course. All the managers complain about it.
“There are a lot of games. No recovery and a lot of injuries. We know that. It is what it is.
“In the meetings with the big bosses in pre-season, the managers spoke about it.
