GIRL POWDER?

Fans’ frenzy over ‘white line’ on phone as Spices reunited

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by CINDY PATTISON

THE Spice Girls reunion was hit by controversy last night after fans spotted a “suspicious” object in a picture of the band.

Eagle-eyed Twitter users spied what they claimed looked like “white powder” on a phone on a table behind the pop pals.

The photo was taken to celebrate the 90s band’s announcement that they would be working together again on new projects.

It was snapped at the home of Ginger Spice Geri Horner as she met up with Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Mel C and Emma Bunton.

Original manager Simon Fuller also joined them.

Many fans were convinced the mystery line was simply a reflection.

But one Twitter user wrote: “Any1 noticed the drugs on the phone on the table.” Another added: “I think Victoria is gonna go wild when she sees the line of coke in the picture #spicegirls #line girls.” And a third captioned the image: “Hurry up and take a pic first then I’ll sniff my line.”

Others teased that the substance on the phone could be sugar.

A tweet read: “I tell you what they want, what they really really want”….is to be more careful on where they leave sugar…I mean, what does a “phone with a line of sugar” taste like? #spicegirls @victoriabeckham.” And yet another wrote: “Deffo a line on that phone #spice girls tut tut..”

But others defended the band, with one fan writing in a forum that the white substance was “clearly a reflection”.

While there is no suggestion any of the fivesome or Simon Fuller had taken drugs, the uproar risked overshadowing the reunion.

The Spices announced they were working together 22 years after first storming the charts with debut hit Wannabe. It was the first time in six years that all five girls have been reunited. Geri, Mel and Emma had initially announced then abandoned plans to perform as a trio.

The group then released a statement saying there would be future projects.

They are not expected to perform or record any music, with Victoria especially keen to seek assurances she will not be asked to sing.

Instead, a compilation album and a talent contest are being touted – with the girls expected to earn £10million each.

Yesterday Mel C said: “We do see each other individually, or a couple of us here or a few there. It had been bubbling under.

“We’re now working again with Simon Fuller, which is lovely as it’s like the old team are back together and I think we always shared the same vision.

“It’s really nice to be back and thinking about the future.”

She said the girls celebrated with a nutritious takeaway, and added: “We were being very healthy. We went to Planet Organic, lots of sushi.”
