It’s Trybull warfare as Gestede sees red

- By CHRIS LEES

BORO boss Tony Pulis was unhappy with the decision to send off Rudy Gestede at Carrow Road.

Gestede was shown a straight red card in the 28th minute for a mistimed tackle on Grant Hanley, having already been booked for accidentally catching Alex Tettey with a high boot.

The Canaries went on to a comfortable win but Pulis felt referee Michael Jones’ decision changed the game.

“For the first one I don’t think it was a booking at all,” he said. “Rudy couldn’t see their player and there was absolutely no intent.

“For the second one I have seen challenges in the Premier League this week that were 10 times worse than that and the players haven’t been sent off.

“I thought it was a good game until the sending off but I don’t want to focus too much on that.

“We created two good chances before the red card and one good one after it but we didn’t take them and that is very disappointing.”

The only goal came moments before the break.

Norwich worked the ball across the face of the box to German midfielder Tom Trybull, who sent a low shot into the bottom corner.

It was the perfect way for Trybull to celebrate a new three-and-a-half-year contract.

Norwich manager Daniel Farke said: “It was a brilliant day for Tom and the club.

“I was really pleased when he signed his contract, we all were. It gave us a little bit more motivation and energy before the game.

“Sometimes it goes like this in football when one good thing is followed by another. Scoring goals isn’t the main part of Tom’s game because he isn’t often in places on the field to do that. But he is a player with very good technical ability and it was a very good strike.

“I would have liked another goal but I thought we were comfortable after going ahead, even though it is obviously easier when you are playing against 10 men.

“We didn’t allow them a single clear chance in the whole game and that is very pleasing.”
