Powell extends lead at the top for Latics

WIGAN extended their lead at the top while nearest challenger­s Blackburn saw their 18-match unbeaten run ended by Plymouth.

Rovers came unstuck after first-half goals from Ruben Lameiras and Ryan Taylor. That result allowed Wigan to move two points clear with their 2-0 win over Gillingham, where Will Grigg’s 15th goal of the season was added to by Nick Powell (below).

Shrewsbury moved into the top two after snatching a late 2-1 victory at Bristol Rovers. Alex Rodman netted the winner after Rovers defender Joe Partington cancelled out

Scunthorpe closed the gap to third place with an eventful 3-2 win at 10-man Fleetwood. Josh Morris struck twice to put the Iron two up but Fleetwood drew level through Ashley Hunter and Bobby Grant. Ivan Toney struck the winner for Scunthorpe.

Bradford lost 2-1 at struggling Oldham, Cameron Dummigan and Aaron Holloway on the scoresheet before Jordan Gibson netted a late consolatio­n.

Rotherham took advantage of that result to leapfrog their Yorkshire rivals into fifth place as goals from Michael Smith and David Ball earned them a 2-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.

Doncaster twice let the lead slip at Portsmouth who battled back for a 2-2 draw. James Coppinger and John Marquis struck for Rovers with Anton Walkes and Brett Pitman responding for Pompey.

Oxford twice fought back from behind to claim a dramatic 3-2 win over Charlton, with Todd Kane and Ryan Ledson netting in the dying moments.

Charlton had led through Ahmed Kashi and Josh Magennis, with James Henry scoring Oxford’s first goal.

Rock-bottom Bury salvaged a 1-1 draw with Blackpool as George Miller netted a late equaliser after Sean Longstaff had put the visitors ahead.

Calvin Andrew scored the only goal to give Rochdale their first away win of the season at Northampto­n.

Walsall defeated MK Dons 1-0 thanks to Julien Ngoy, while an early Jason Demetriou penalty earned Southend victory at Peterborou­gh.
