THE average home owner has almost £2,000 worth of goods cluttering up their loft.

Among the items householde­rs owned up to keeping in storage were a stuffed cat, dismembere­d dolls and even their loved ones’ ashes.

In a bid to discover more about how people use their attics, a loft conversion and extension specialist launched a research project.

The team at Essex Rooms polled more than 2,000 home owners with loft spaces.

They were asked how they used the space and almost 75% said they used it for storage. A further 17% said their attic was used as an extra room.

One in 10 told researcher­s they left the space unused.

People were asked what they found in the roof space when they first moved in to their property.

Some of the oddest discoverie­s were:

Asked if they kept belongings in their loft for any particular reason, the majority (72%) admitted they did not.

They claimed they were just hoarding items in case they were ever needed in the future.

My advice is simple here folks, the way you want it, with a wide range of design layouts, romantic embellishm­ents and text options to ensure you capture the sentiment.
