HE PREPARES FOR DRAGONS’ REVENGE

meant we had one play left to defend and the season was on the line for us in those five seconds.

“I was a bit shocked. I just felt like digging myself into the ground and burying myself because everyone’s eyes were on me.

“It was definitely not a nice situation but we hung on.

“But I never want us to be in that situation again. In fact, we need to make ROARING BACK: Robshaw puts his and England’s resurgence down to the Australian sure we stay out of the Middle Eights altogether.”

Widnes, who finished seventh in 2016, trailed in bottom place last year after a campaign ravaged by injuries.

But loose forward Cahill, 31, is convinced that experience will help the squad thrive this year.

He said: “A lot of young boys got great experiences last year and they’ve been putting pressure on the older players in pre-season. We’ve also got new boys in so everybody is pushing each other because everyone wants to be in the starting team.

“Our pre-season training has probably been the most enjoyable yet, as well, because we’ve changed a lot of things.

“We have gone more down the scientific route, doing more pre-hab so that we can strengthen joints like knees and shoulders, as well as hamstrings. The coaching staff have been making us more agile so I think we’ll look like a different, exciting team this year.”

The Dragons will have full-back David Mead, stand-off Samisoni Langi, hooker Michael McIlorum and back-rower Benjamin Jullien making their debuts.

But veteran forward Greg Bird is still recovering from a knee injury.
