Kieran’s on a perfect power Trip

CRUNCH SPELL: Kieran Trippier KIERAN TRIPPIER says Spurs are in the perfect frame of mind for a 10-day spell that could MAKE or BREAK their season.

Having enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Manchester United on Wednesday, Mauricio Pochettino’s men are back in the hunt for a top-four Premier League finish.

But with four more crunch games looming in less than a fortnight – kicking off with today’s trip to Liverpool – there is no time to ease off the gas.

The north Londoners, unbeaten in nine matches, host Newport County at Wembley on Wednesday in an FA Cup fourth-round replay before entertaining their bitter rivals Arsenal in the league on Saturday.

But the sequence of titanic tussles does not end there. Three days later Poch’s troops resume their Champions League challenge – with the away leg of their last-16 showdown against Italian giants Juventus.

Spurs warmed up for the crunch period by taking out Jose Mourinho’s big-spending United and Trippier admits the mood inside the camp could scarcely be better.

The England and Spurs right-back, 27, said: “It was a fantastic performance against United, from start to finish.

“We knew if we matched their tempo, then we could beat them – as we can anybody. We went on to control the game, we kept a clean sheet, and picked up a massive win.

“It sets us up nicely for this month as we are up against a lot of quality teams. Next up is Liverpool and that’s another massive game.

“But we will go there full of confidence and try to play against them with the same freedom we showed against United – and enjoy ourselves.”

In addition to Christian Eriksen scoring the opener against United after only 11 seconds, Tottenham’s relentless energy and pressure throughout was an outstanding feature.

Producing a repeat display this afternoon at Anfield depends on Spurs’ ability to recharge the batteries.

Trippier added: “It’s all about the recovery. That’s the most important thing now and that comes from the manager.

“We have a great team spirit and want to do it for each other – even the guys on the bench or not in the match squad.

“Everyone just gets on with it.”
