WHISTLE-STOP GUARDIOLA

- ■ by PAUL HETHERINGTON

PEP headed straight for Paul Pogba at the final whistle last night to congratulate him on his performance.

But the Manchester City boss insisted he did not mention his claim on Friday that he was offered the chance to sign France star Pogba in the January transfer window.

Guardiola (below) said: “I just went to him to congratulate him.

“For us it was a night when we missed chances and I am sad for our supporters that we haven’t won the title here.

“Every time United went into our box they seemed to score.

“So has to be congratulations to Manchester United.

“They obviously looked at things at half-time and tried to change and they have a good manager.

“People have told me we could have had penalties but I didn’t see that and it is the job of the referee Martin Atkinson to make decisions. We had chances but we also have to defend our box.

“Now, we have Tuesday night against Liverpool in the Champions League – that’s first.

“Then we will try to win the Premier League as quickly as possible.

“It is a special day for United.

“We did absolutely everything in the first half but then for 10-15 minutes we conceded goals. “It is what it is. “But we move forward. We did everything in the first half, we played with courage and created so many chances but we have to improve. “We were not good enough in the end. “The schedule is like this, that’s why this competition is so tough. “We tried to create and attack. That is what we have done all season. “We tried to produce that but we had to defend a little better in the second half.” HAIR OF THE POG: United’s blue-haired ace scores to spark the comeback
