MEGHAN Markle faced a terrifying attack in Buenos Aires, royal biographer Andrew Morton revealed.

Prince Harry’s bride-to-be worked as an intern at the US Embassy in the Argentine capital in her early 20s.

She was part of an American convoy targeted by violent demonstrators.

The journalist found out about the incident, which will prepare Meghan for the intense life she will soon lead, while researching her past to prepare his new book Meghan: A Hollywood Princess.

He said: “One of the scariest things for her was when she was travelling with a convoy when she worked for the State Department in Buenos Aires.

“She was with the American convoy that was attacked by demonstrators.

“She wasn’t hurt but they whacked placards on the vehicles and it was the scariest moment of her life.

“It really was a horrendous experience for her. It really scared her to death.

“It’s a standard protocol for the members of the royal family to be drilled in anti-hostage training.

“Meghan has been put through the required training lately.”

Hard-working Meghan, 36, had completed most of her university degree by the second year, so had time to take up the internship at the government department before graduating in 2003.

She told international magazine Marie Claire that shadowing the US Secretary of Treasury Paul O’Neill meant she would “for sure have a career in politics”.

Morton also learned that Meghan was involved in politics from a young age – leading a demonstration of her own in the school grounds.

He added: “She was only ten years old. They were discussing the war in class and one of the children burst into tears because her brother was stationed in Iraq.

“They were concerned that he may not come back home. So there was a lot of debate in class that day.

“Meghan headed a demonstration with other kids behind her in the school grounds with placards.”

However, it is thought Meghan will be forced to keep her activism in check after she marries Harry at Windsor Castle on May 19.

Robert Lacey, a historian and biographer of The Queen, said: “You have to go back to Prince Philip to think of a recruit to the family who is so evidently feisty and spiky.

“I can see that this is going to be a real problem in the months and years ahead for her, an existential problem.

“I don’t imagine the Queen will be in a rush to have Meghan at Balmoral when Trump visits.”
