Olsson is out to spoil party

Man City v Swansea

-

SWANSEA star Martin Olsson is aiming to halt lightning Raheem Sterling – and put a dampener on Manchester City’s party.

The stage is set for an afternoon of champagne celebration at The Etihad today as City fans pay homage to Pep Guardiola’s newly crowned league champions.

But for Olsson (right) and struggling Swansea, who are far too close to the drop zone for comfort, the trip is another vital showdown in the tense survival scrap.

The left-back, 29, said: “We’re going there to get something. We need points.

“City have won the league but we’re not focused on their party. We focus on us and trying to make it a disappointment for them.

“Maybe their aggression might drop off, though we can’t expect that.”

Olsson knows stopping in-form Sterling could be key to Swansea’s chances. He is full of respect for the City winger, who has rattled in 22 goals this term, and is tipping him to wreak havoc at the World Cup.

The Swedish international added: “He has always been a good talent – just look at what he did at Liverpool.

“With the right manager he’s had an even better season. You can see the difference Guardiola has made.

“Sterling makes an impact and he’s the type that can make an impact at the World Cup because he is scoring and setting up goals.”

Despite being in peril, Swansea have been transformed since the arrival of Carlos Carvalhal.

Olsson said: “He’s so passionate

– even in team meetings he gets people fired up.

“He’s made sure we’re confident

– he’s done well.” HARRY PRATT
