MAN UNITED MATCH RATINGS 6 6 6 6 6 7 6 6 6 6 8

- BY TONY STENSON

Could never relax, had to be on his guard. He was let down by the defending in front of him for conceding the first goal. In reality, he had little to do overall. Kept busy by Son and found it hard to make his forward surges. But he raised his game and by the end he was one of United’s best players. Booked.JONES Was nowhere for Spurs’ opener but as the game went on, so did his confidence. He must have impressed watching England manager Gareth Southgate.

Kept a close, watchful eye on Kane and although sometimes lured out of position, stayed true to his task. Never great, just solid and a fine bedrock when needed. Made a couple of early errors. Missing down the left flank when Eriksen ran clear to cross for Tottenham’s opening goal. Then his experience kicked in. Got into good, menacing positions but his final pass lacked quality at times. Grew into the game. Battled hard and was in the right place to score United’s second. Steady. Quietly effective. Held the middle ground well without the alarm bells ringing. Did what he usually does. Mopped up and prompted. Left the magic to others. Was a peripheral figure for most of the first half. But he saw Herrera making his blind-side run and stepped aside to allow his team-mate to score. Subbed. Put early header just over. Powerful – and skilful – throughout. He is a warrior of a forward and was always nipping away giving the Tottenham defenders no peace. The little man was caught early by Trippier. Went down, then staged a remarkable recovery to head United’s equaliser. Dangerous and absolute quality.

Steady and dependable replacing injured Valencia .... 6 Booked within three minutes for diving. Harsh ........... 6 Sent on to add height to defence under pressure ....... 6

?? ?? A passenger when Eriksen left him in his wake for Tottenham’s opener but his cross for Sanchez to score even had Mourinho leaping from his seat.
