Hoolahan enjoys a slice of luck as he signs off in style

- By ROB BARLOW

WES HOOLAHAN signed off with a goal and an assist as his final game for Norwich ended in a deserved win.

The midfielder (left) whose contract is not being renewed, equalised just before the break with a deflected shot from outside the box and laid on Josh Murphy’s winner in the 69th minute.

Leeds had threatened to ruin Hoolahan’s big day when Kalvin Phillips opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a spectacular strike.

But Norwich hit back when Hoolahan picked up a loose ball just inside the Leeds half and ran at goal before unleashing a left-footed drive which took a big nick off Pontus Jansson and hit both posts before going in.

The crucial moment came when Hoolahan found Murphy just inside the box and the winger fired in a powerful shot which appeared to go straight through keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Canaries boss Daniel Farke said: “If I had a paint a picture of how Wes’ career for Norwich would finish that would have been it. He put in an excellent performance and, of course, we won the game which I know was his target.

“He showed, at nearly 36, that he could still have a big influence on a Championship game – it’s not just the ability, it’s the passion as well.

“It was a very emotional moment when we took him off near the end.”

Leeds boss Paul Heckingbottom said: “I didn’t enjoy the game at all.

“We said beforehand that we didn’t want it to be like a testimonial but that’s what it felt like.”
