Despair for Barnet despite last-day win

-

A GOALLESS draw for Morecambe at Coventry was enough to keep them in the Football League at the expense of Barnet.

The Bees did all they could for boss Martin Allen (below) beating relegated Chesterfield

3-0 thanks to goals from John Akinde, Richard Brindley and Alex Nicholls, but they needed Morecambe to lose.

With Coventry knowing a point would guarantee them a place in the play-offs, there was little incentive for either side to push and it was no surprise the match ended 0-0.

Lincoln clinched the final play-off place with a

1-1 draw against Yeovil. They trailed to Jordan Green’s

10th-minute opener and Matt Green missed a penalty but Tom Pett eased the nerves with a

77th-minute equaliser. Mansfield needed to win to have any chance of making the top seven but they could only manage a

1-1 draw with Crawley. The visitors led through Karlan Ahearne-Grant but Kane Hemmings deservedly equalised.

Exeter and Notts County were both guaranteed play-off spots, and the Grecians managed their first win in three with Robbie Simpson scoring in a 1-0 win over Colchester, while County played out a goalless draw against second-place Luton, who had Danny Hylton sent off.

Champions Accrington lost 3-0 to Swindon. Marc Richards, Keshi Anderson and Paul Mullin scored while both sides finished with 10 men after Swindon’s James Dunne and Jimmy Dunne of Accrington were sent off. Third-placed Wycombe celebrated their promotion with a 1-0 win over Stevenage with Matt Bloomfield the scorer. Cambridge finished with a 5-0 thrashing of Port Vale

– David Amoo, Harrison Dunk, Brad Halliday, Barry Corr and Billy Waters the scorers.

Last season’s promoted sides Forest Green and Grimsby met each other, with the Mariners winning 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick by JJ Hooper.

Shaun Miller scored twice as Crewe beat Cheltenham 2-1, with George Lloyd scoring for Town.

Carlisle and Newport played out a 1-1 draw, with County’s Padraig Amond scoring his 13th of the season to cancel out Mark Ellis’ opener.
