SIK DAY FOR DARYL’S CAS Manu and Faraimo help FC climb

Hull FC ....... 36 Castleford .. 12 by Julie Stott

BURETA FARAIMO killed off the Tigers’ hopes of a late fightback to lift Hull up to fourth.

Sika Manu had earlier blasted over for two early tries as Castleford shot themselves in the foot during the first half. But Daryl Powell’s outfit were threatening to force their way back, following a debut try from Calum Turner.

Giant winger Faraimo, however, snuffed out their chances when he pounced for his second try.

It was a poor display by the Tigers, who have now lost two of their last three games and slip to fifth in the ladder. But one of their biggest problems is still the hangover from the sacking of full-back Zak Hardaker in the wake of his positive cocaine test. Ben Roberts was tried there earlier in the season but failed and youngster Jake Trueman is also clearly not the answer.

He had such a poor start yesterday that he was subbed in the first half with Michael Shenton, who started on the wing, taking over. It was just one of several problems in the backs currently blighting the Tigers, who had neither of their first-choice halves available.

Hull suffered the same fate when Marc Sneyd was helped off injured, joining stand-off Albert Kelly – who has signed a new two-year deal – on the crocked list.

Before that early second-half setback the home side had looked by far the better, racking up four tries to one.

Sneyd’s bombs set up two of the touchdowns.

Manu, who had earlier been put through by a pass from Jake Connor, was the first to benefit from Sneyd’s boot. Faraimo also went over in the corner after Connor palmed back another towering Sneyd kick.

Their first-half dominance included a terrific solo effort from full-back Jamie Shaul, with Sneyd converting two of the four tries.

Castleford’s only answer was a converted try from makeshift scrum-half Paul McShane after Shenton tapped down a Jamie Ellis kick.

But the loss of Sneyd took the steam out of Hull’s one-way charge and Castleford started to smell blood.

Turner celebrated his debut with a 49th-minute try after Shaul dropped an Ellis kick.

But Faraimo powered over and Josh Griffin then sealed the win with another late try, with Connor adding his fourth goal from as many attempts.
