Mick in bits over Shakil

HEARTBROKEN Mick Carter is in tears as he apologies to Carmel Kazemi for turning away her son Shakil because he thought he was drunk.

During horrific scenes last week, Shakil and his best mate Keegan Baker were both stabbed.

Queen Vic landlord Mick managed to get Keegan to hospital on the night of the attack but by the time locals found Shakil the following day his injuries were so severe doctors were unable to save him. Carmel initially refused to believe that her son was dead until her ex-lover Max Branning, who lost daughter Abi earlier this year, gave her a reality check.

Her ex-husband Umar arrived at the hospital to comfort her as they said goodbye to their youngest son.

In emotional scenes to be screened later this week, Mick can’t help but feel guilty about failing to spot that Shakil was seriously hurt.

As our picture shows, he’s in bits as he tells Carmel how sorry he is for failing to save her son.

Keegan’s mum Karen Taylor tries her best to comfort him but it’s going to take some doing for Mick to feel able to forgive himself.

An EastEnders insider said: “Mick did everything he could to save Keegan but sadly he had no idea that Shakil was injured when he spotted him stumbling around outside the pub.

“He’d have done everything he could to help him too.

“He just can’t stop thinking about how he could have saved him.”
