Special day for Trinder

- ■ by GARY FITZGERALD

HENRY TRINDER’S England dream becomes reality today but the centre will never forget the nightmare of nearly quitting the game.

Coach Eddie Jones has given Gloucester ace Trinder (below) his long-awaited chance to shine on the international stage when he lines up against the Barbarians.

But just two years ago Trinder feared the worst when a second anterior cruciate ligament injury left him wondering if he would play again.

Trinder, 29, is now aiming to force his way into England’s World Cup plans and said: “I had to start again from right down at the very bottom. It’s a lonely place.

“A few days after my second knee op I started a diary. The first couple of pages are dark.

“It’s scary to read it back. There were sleepless nights but now I can look back at those pages and put it into perspective.

“It’s taken me longer than I hoped but I always believed I could get a chance with England. Wearing that jersey at Twickers will be special.” DEMAND: Eddie Hearn PROMOTER Eddie Hearn says Deontay Wilder must agree to face Anthony Joshua in the UK for the fight to happen this year.

American Wilder has made a £37million offer to Brit Joshua for their world heavyweight title unification bout to take place in the States.

But WBA, IBF and WBO champion Joshua, 28, is insisting on home advantage against WBC king Wilder, 32, after selling nearly 250,000 tickets for his last three fights at Wembley then twice at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
