Werner tells rivals to keep their hands off sore Salah

- ■ by STEVE MILLAR

CHAIRMAN Tom Werner has revealed that Liverpool will repel rival clubs by opening talks on a new deal for magnificent Mo Salah.

They want to reward the Egypt ace who suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder last night, with improved terms on his current £90,000-a-week contract.

And Kop chief Werner believes he will be with the club for a long time.

Champions League Final opponents Real Madrid are top of a list of admirers who would love Salah next season.

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are also showing major interest – though Barca will refuse to meet the Reds’ £200million valuation.

But Werner is confident Salah, 25, will continue his love affair with Liverpool where he has been a goalscoring sensation since his £36.9m arrival from Roma 12 months ago.

Werner (left) said: “I am confident. I think he’s enjoying his experience at Liverpool. Mo loves his team-mates and he feels the love from his supporters. I’m sure whenever they sing their song for him, I’m sure it registers.

“I know he’s very happy at Liverpool so I’m optimistic that he will be playing for us for a long time.”

Werner is delighted, too, that manager Jurgen Klopp has made such a huge impact since his arrival in October 2015.

He added: “I remember in Jurgen’s first press conference he described himself as The Normal One. But in reality he’s The Exceptional One.

“The style of football this season has been so thrilling. I think at our best we are certainly one of the best teams in the world.

“I’d also like to dwell on what a first-class character Jurgen is.

“I find him to be one of the most extraordinary individuals that I have ever met.”
