New blaze hell hits landmark
GLASGOW’S School of Art has been gutted by fire for the second time in four years. The blaze started at the landmark Rennie Mackintosh building in the city centre late on Friday night.
Flames quickly spread to nearby buildings, including the Campus nightclub and the O2 ABC music venue.
The Mackintosh library – which was destroyed in the previous fire in May 2014 – had been due to reopen next year after £35million renovations. Peter Heath, from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said the building had been “extensively damaged by fire” that had “spread very rapidly”.
