Sick star Manilow on mend

-

MUSIC star Barry Manilow could be back on stage at the end of this week after being rushed to hospital and forced to cancel a string of shows, writes MIKE PARKER.

The singer of hits such as Copacabana and Mandy had been scheduled to start a new residency last night in Las Vegas.

Instead, he was still being treated in hospital for a bronchial infection after being admitted on Thursday and tweeting: “I can’t believe this is happening.”

Manilow, 74, who stunned fans by marrying his manager Garry Kief in a samesex ceremony four years ago, had been complaining of severe chest pains.

But his spokesman confirmed yesterday that he is making a “speedy recovery”.

And if doctors give him the all-clear, he could open his Manilow Live – The Hits Come Home season at Las Vegas’s Westgate Resort as soon as Thursday.

The spokesman added that Manilow was “under the care of the best doctors and being closely monitored and supervised. He is expected to be released in a few days”.

Manilow was said to be frustrated to miss his opening weekend but “feeling much better. He’s in good spirits and anxious to get going again.”
