Postie clan’s mail bonding

-

POSTMAN Tony Reading and his two sons rule the rounds in their home town.

The friendly postie, 63, has been delivering mail for 30 years.

In the last five years he has been joined by his sons, Darren, 27 and Jonathan, 34 – and they are now thought to be the largest father and son group in Royal Mail.

Tony said: “My brother worked for Royal Mail. He suggested I apply and I haven’t looked back.

“The flexibility that comes with being a postperson is what’s great…and that we’re such a big part of the community. “Darren was in retail and wasn’t getting anywhere, and Jonathan was at a bookies. Both were looking to make a change. Darren has been delivering for five years and Jon for two.”

Now, the Reading family deliver all of the post in Leamington Spa, Warks. Another of Tony’s sons is now considering joining them.

Tony said: “Some weeks I’ve had one of the boys out actually delivering with me, which is nice.

“I know it’s rare to get to spend so much time with your kids. We probably spend more time together at work than out of work.”

He added: “It’s nice delivering those Mother’s and Father’s Day cards – but funnily enough there’s always more for the mums.”
