Tomkins back to basics

- ■ by JULIE STOTT

JOEL TOMKINS will start rebuilding his career with a debut for Hull KR today.

The former dual code international, 31 (below) was banned and fined by Wigan a fortnight ago for an abusive rant at two barmaids which was caught on video.

He then agreed to leave after Rovers stepped in with an offer and is expected to start against Castleford today.

Hull KR coach Tim Sheens said: “We’re very pleased with ourselves, he’s fitted in very quickly.

“He’s up to speed fitnesswise, it’s just fitting him into the plays and things.”

Sheens’ side are also likely to be boosted by the return of captain Shaun Lunt and former Cas forward Lee Jewitt.

But playmaker Danny McGuire and hooker Tommy Lee are crocked for today’s must-win game.

Castleford are starting to find form with three wins in their last four games but coach Daryl Powell admits he is wary of Lunt’s return to Cas and said: “He is dangerous, always sniffing tries out.” Castleford v Hull KR
