- N by ISOBEL DICKINSON

A POLICE officer is in hospital amid n concerns they may have been exposed to to the nerve agent Novichok.

The officer, believed to be with the Wiltshire force, is being treated at Salisbury District Hospital. It is a short distance from Amesbury where Dawn Sturgess, 44, and her partner Charlie Rowley, 45, fell ill last Saturday. They remain in a critical condition in intensive care at the same hospital after being exposed to Novichok when they handled a contaminated item.

It is believed the officer initially attended Great Western Hospital in Swindon before being transferred. Meanwhile, the mum of one of n the victims claims they are not getting top treatment because they are “nobody alcoholics”. Dawn Sturgess’ mother Caroline believes her daughter is being deprived of the care given to ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal and daughter Yulia.

It is feared that Dawn, 44, inset top, and her addict boyfriend Charles Rowley, 45, inset bottom, were contaminated with Novichok as they rooted through bins. Dawn is said to be “on the brink of death”. A relative, who asked not to be n named, said: “Dawn and Charlie are unconscious in isolation and visitors have to look at them through glass. Dawn is not breathing for herself and is on a respirator.

“The doctors said that it’s n not looking good and that she might not survive.” Despite round-the-clock care, Caroline believes staff are treating the pair like “secondclass citizens”.

We have asked the hospital to comment on the claim.
