DEGALE HAS SIGHTS SET ON EU

- ■ by NICK PARKINSON

JAMES DEGALE is being lined up to face Chris Eubank Jr after giving up his world title last week.

After winning back the IBF world super-middleweight belt from American Caleb Truax in April, DeGale vacated the belt to avoid a mandatory defence against Venezuelan Jose Uzcategui.

He is now free to pursue a fight against an opponent of his choice and is in talks with English rival Eubank Jr (right) who was beaten on points by George Groves in February. DeGale, 32, lost a shock points decision to Truax in December and had been linked with a catchweight fight with WBO world middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders for September 15.

But the Olympic middleweight gold medallist of 2008 is instead looking to face Eubank Jr, who he has swapped insults with since sparring together in 2012.

DeGale has had just one fight in the UK in his last six outings and wants to box at home more. One fight that will not be on British soil, though, is the one between Londoner Groves and Liverpool's unbeaten Callum Smith, who are due to meet in the World Boxing Super Series final in September.

The fight has been put back until then to allow WBA world super-middleweight champion Groves time to recover from shoulder surgery.

Jeddah in Saudi Arabia is the surprise location being considered.
