THAT’S NOT SO SMART

-

A FORMER energy minister who helped introduce smart meters says he threw his away because he “didn’t use it”.

Ex-Labour MP Mike O’Brien, said he had an early version of the device, which is designed to make it easier to monitor energy use and costs.

But he barely looked at it and “got rid of it”.

Almost seven million meters are currently installed and the Government has pledged to offer them to every household and business by the end of 2020.

A report last year from the Commons Science and Technology Committee concluded the meters were likely to save consumers only a small amount of money. POLICE investigating Lucy McHugh’s death were searching a house and wasteland yesterday after a man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The 13-year-old went missing on Wednesday and her body was found in woodland a day later.

Police cordoned off land close to Southampton Sports Centre, Hants, where the teenager was discovered, and dogs have been searching the woods.

Forensic officers also investigated a property situated just 27 doors away from her local family home.

Hampshire Constabulary said post-mortem tests were carried out on Friday and some of her injuries were “unexplained”.

A 24-year-old man from the area is being held in custody on suspicion of murder and engaging in sexual activity with a child. WEARING shoes indoors could spread bacteria found in human faeces around the home.

Research by Bissell has found that the 75% of Brits who wear shoes indoors could be treading in E coli, which is often found in human and animal poo.

The figures are made even more shocking by the fact that more than half of those quizzed eat dropped food if it’s on the floor for less than three seconds.

Hygiene expert Dr Lisa Ackerley said: “It’s time we put the three-second rule to bed for good. It is simply not true.”
