...and planes aren’t flying AGAIN!

THOUSANDS of holidaymak­ers faced travel chaos as extreme weather and strikes saw trains and flights cancelled.

Eurotunnel customers faced a three-hour wait and 90-minute check-in time at Folkestone.

The cross-Channel rail operator blamed “recent severe weather conditions”. Budget airline Ryanair said the knock-on effect of Friday night’s thundersto­rms, along with air traffic control staff shortages, was responsibl­e for up to 14 cancelled flights out of Stansted Airport.

Luton Airport and Gatwick Airport also saw delays and cancellati­ons due to thundersto­rms in Europe.

There was heavy traffic around the Port of Dover (inset) as families headed for summer getaways on the Continent by ferry.

Fuming drivers faced six-hour queues on the M20 leading to the Eurotunnel.

Traveller, Sarah Dodwell, said: “Queuing on the M20 for Eurotunnel – how to ruin a one-week big family holiday.” Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union on South Western Railway and Eurostar walked out for 24 hours. Eurostar station staff based at London’s St Pancras claim they face “shocking and dangerous” working conditions because of repeated service failures and breakdowns.

Lightning damaged signals on Northern rail and London North Eastern Railway which operates on the wEast Coast main line.

Melting roads were reported in Brighton and Godalming in Surrey.
