Here ‘wig’ go again for hair-raiser Cher

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by ED GLEAVE edward.gleave@dailystar.co.uk

POP legend Cher had someone responsible for just her wigs when she filmed the Mamma Mia sequel.

The iconic singer, 72, wears only two hair pieces in the new musical.

But producers had to shell out for an expert to make sure they were tip top.

Make-up artist Morgane Bernhard was brought in with the job title: “Wig maker to Cher.” The industry veteran has worked on a string of hit films in the past and worked with Cher before.

Morgane secured an Emmy nomination for her work on Cher’s Farewell Tour in the category for outstanding hairstyling for a mini-series.

Cher appears in sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again as a wacky grandma, top right. It’s the first film role for the Oscar winner in seven years. She filmed scenes alongside stars Andy Garcia, Julie Walters and Colin Firth. When it was released at cinemas last week the musical, which is a prequel to the 2008 original, was a hit at the box office.

It racked up takings of

£9.7million, which is

47% up on the opening weekend for the original. The film features a host of Abba hits including Knowing Me, Knowing You. Cher recorded two songs – Fernando and Super Trouper. The sound-track is expected to be the hit of the summer and become one of the biggest-selling albums of the year.

Cher, pictured left at the premiere, loved working on the film and has embarked on an album of Abba covers. It will include renditions of SOS, Dancing Queen and Waterloo. She said: “After I did Fernando I thought it would really be fun to do an album of Abba songs, so I did!”
