Andre can be Schurr thing for Cottagers

- By TONY STENSON

NEW Fulham loan signing Andre Schurrle is a man on a mission.

He became a national hero after laying on a World Cup-winning goal for Germany four years ago.

But a spell of poor form means he must rebuild his reputation at a club just two tube stops along from his last spell in London at Chelsea.

“This could be the perfect opportunity for me to start all over again,” said Schurrle, 27.

The midfielder joined Fulham on a two-year loan deal from Borussia Dortmund last week.

But he has suffered turbulent times since coming off the bench in Rio to set up fellow sub Mario Gotze for a

113th-minute winner against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup Final.

After several high-profile moves, Schurrle’s star has dimmed and now he wants to set the Premier League alight at Craven Cottage.

He said: “They play the type of football I like and I believe I can fit in well.”

Schurrle joined Chelsea for

£18million from Bayer Leverkusen five years ago.

But after a promising start he found himself out of favour under Jose Mourinho and was sold to Wolfsburg just 18 months later.

He made a promising start there, setting up two goals in his first game, and went on to win the German Cup but left after scoring 13 times in 63 appearances.

A move to Dortmund also started well but in his first season he was plagued by injuries. His second season was better but overall he proved to be a disappointment.

Schurrle scored just three goals in 33 league games with the Westfalenstadion outfit.

Fulham could be the ideal place for his stars to once again align.

The Cottagers cannot lose. Neither can Schurrle. There is no option to buy him and if he rediscovers his form, Dortmund could simply ask for him back.

“I can’t wait to get started,” he said. “Fulham were the first club that showed interest in me – that was something I appreciated a lot.

“I’ve read so much about Fulham’s style – I think it could be perfect for me.”

Fulham share the same

SW6 postcode as their Stamford Bridge rivals.

Schurrle scored a hat-trick for Chelsea in a 3-1 win at Craven Cottage in 2014.

And Fulham would love him to find that form again – only this time for them.
