Godparent choice is Dec of a dilemma
ANT McPartlin’s marriage break-up has landed telly partner Dec Donnelly and his pregnant wife with a godparent dilemma.
Mum-to-be Ali Astall – due to give birth to their first baby in September – had been expected to invite Ant and his wife Lisa to do the honours. But the excited mum-to-be knows it would be “inconceivable” to make Ant godfather and Lisa godmother.
Ali has become very fond of Ant’s new girlfriend Anne-Marie Corbett, 42, a mum-of-two who is his PA as well.
But Anne-Marie has been blamed by Lisa, 41, for allegedly breaking the unwritten “girl code” against dating a friend’s ex-boyfriend.
A pal said: “Everything is made so much more tricky and delicate to handle because neither Declan nor Ali will take sides in what is going on around them.
“They have both decided they will not play piggy in the middle as this fall-out really is none of their business.
“Of course they have other options for godparents – but they did not foresee the fall-out of events which have blown up over the past few months.
“They’ve had to really distance themselves from the accusations which have been flying around, and make sure they are left out of all this.”
It is believed Ant – worth an estimated £62million from his showbiz fortune – is prepared to offer Lisa “what she wants” for a divorce to end their rift.
However friends claim he wants her to hand over expensive jewellery she owns to be assessed for insurance purposes.
They are also both likely to fight for custody of their pet dog Hurley.
