Bury reward after a memorable Trip

-

THE North West town of Bury is famous for its market – and black pudding.

You can also add various soap characters, pop stars, politicians and the Neville family.

But the talk of the town at the moment is Tottenham and England’s attacking full-back Kieran Trippier (right).

So much so, in fact, that one of England’s World Cup heroes is being tipped to be given the Freedom of Bury.

That would give him the right to earn money and own land in the town, although he is now based in London.

But being made a Freeman, which was discussed by Bury Council even before England returned from Russia, would be an honour to mark his World Cup performances. Trippier’s crossing and free-kick expertise has seen him dubbed “the Bury Beckham”.

For me, he was England’s outstanding player in Russia – among plenty of other candidates.

His performances have even seen him linked with Champions League winners Real Madrid. The former Burnley defender is expected to respond to this offer from his hometown in the next fortnight.

HARRY MAGUIRE – another of England’s World Cup successes – was regarded as a promising centre-half by the Premier League’s big clubs a year ago.

The big boys were valuing him at

£12million when he was at Hull and were prepared to pay wages of

£35,000-a-week. Leicester, though, stunned the big hitters by offering £17m and a weekly pay packet of

£65,000. It looks as if Leicester will have to considerably improve those terms to keep him after Maguire, 25, shone in Russia and attracted interest from

Manchester United.
