Spot-on Fernando Jos the job for Owls
FERNANDO FORESTIERI rescued Wednesday as boss Jos Luhukay faced a striker crisis.
Fraizer Campbell gave Hull a deserved 36th-minute lead but Forestieri levelled with a coolly taken penalty six minutes into the second half.
He netted his second goal of the season after referee Stuart Attwell pointed to the spot when Forestieri was fouled by Reece Burke.
Owls striker Steven Fletcher, still short of match fitness after long-term knee trouble, was pressed into his first start since the sides drew 2-2 here last December and he missed chances.
Luhukay said: “Everybody knows how important Fernando is to us. He was cool with the penalty. He scored last week and again here, so he’s going in the right direction.
“I can’t be angry with Steven. He was out for more than seven months and it takes time to come back.
“He played a very good game and worked very hard.’’
Hull boss Nigel Adkins said: “In my opinion, it wasn’t a penalty.
“I was pleased with Fraizer. He looked fit, lively and hungry and he leads the line well. He’s important to us.’’
Both sides began the season with defeats.
And after Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri this week confirmed that the club are subject to a transfer embargo, boss Luhukay could have done without losing striker Atdhe Nuhiu, who served a one-match ban after being sent off in last week’s defeat by Wigan.
To compound the lack of firepower, Lucas Joao picked up a groin injury in training.
Evandro pulled a chance wide for Hull before Jarrod Bowen lifted over from a great position.
But the visitors finally took the lead when Bowen’s drive hit a post. Keeper Cameron Dawson saved brilliantly from Evandro’s follow-up but Campbell turned home the loose ball.
Dawson made an instinctive save to deny Hull skipper Markus Henriksen and Forestieri lifted the home fans with his equaliser.
Fletcher might have made the mood even better, but twice headed off target.
