Pierre’s looking Boot-iful

- ■ by HARRY PRATT

UNAI EMERY is backing Arsenal hitman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to be a contender for the Premier League Golden Boot.

The prolific Gabon striker, 29, rattled home 10 goals in just 13 league outings for the Gunners last term after his club-record £56million arrival from Borussia Dortmund in January.

And boss Emery is convinced that red-hot form can continue this season – with Aubameyang (below) alongside Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil.

Asked if the livewire African will rival Harry Kane and Mo Salah at the top of the goal charts, Emery’s response was positive and emphatic.

“Yes. I want strikers in my team who have the possibilities to go for goal and I want to give them more options to attack,” said the former Paris Saint-Germain coach.

“I believe in the quality of these players and that this combination will improve and get better together.”

Anyone thinking that sounds ominous for Danny Welbeck is wrong.

Emery is full of praise for the England forward

– especially his versatility.

Confirming that Welbeck is staying, the Spanish supremo added: “Danny has multi-position possibilities – right winger, left winger, striker.

“And yesterday he worked with us at left-back. His performance was good.

“I like this positive spirit to help. I’ve said to him I want the best performance in his career with better quality and data – more goals, more assists.” BORN WINNER: Unai Emery Overall record
