Town boss Wagner not relying on screen saver

HUDDERSFIELD boss David Wagner has resisted the temptation to watch Man City’s fly-on-the-wall documentary to get an edge on the champions today.

‘All or Nothing: Manchester City’ was released this week and gives a rare behind-the-scenes look at Pep Guardiola’s memorable second season in charge at the Ethiad Stadium.

But Wagner, who oversaw a battling goalless draw at City last season, said: “No I won’t watch it and I don’t know whether I have Amazon Prime.

“I’m not a TV junkie. I’m not being disrespectful to City but if there was another documentary I wouldn’t watch it.

“If I get the information from Pep’s team talks then that’s really interesting.

“If it’s really insightful information I wouldn’t normally get then that is very interesting. Maybe then I’ll watch it.

“We’re just focused on our team and I want the players to be brave like they were when we played them last season.

“What they have done is something very special and extraordinary.

“They deserve the spotlight and all this focus they have. I can only speak in the highest terms about what Pep Guardiola has done with Man City.

“You want to test yourself against the best – and Manchester City are the best. But we want to make it an uncomfortable afternoon for them.”

City will be without talisman Kevin De Bruyne who has been ruled out for three months with a knee injury.

Town’s Danish defender Mathias Jorgensen misses the clash with a muscle injury while Jonathan Hogg is a real doubt because of a hip injury. Terence Kongolo, Ramadan Sobhi, Jonas Lossl and Florent Hadergjonaj have joined the Terriers for significant transfer fees this summer while Ben Hamer, Juninho Bacuna and Erik Durm have arrived on free transfers.

And Wagner, 46, believes the new signings coupled with the club keeping their best players will be key to retaining their Premier League status for another year. He said: “I can only speak in the highest terms about the owner and chairman Dean Hoyle, even if we have controversial conversations.

“I’ve always had the feeling he’s never let me down.

“We’re absolutely on the same page and he understands what it means to build – you have to have consistency and you can’t sell your best players.

“It will happen because that is the nature and size of our club. But this has been one of the key reasons we have been able to progress.”
