Hazard Eden for the top

- ■ by PAUL HETHERINGTON

EDEN HAZARD last night started responding to Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri’s challenge to become the best player in the world.

The brilliant Belgian came off the bench to produce a cameo appearance for half an hour in a 3-2 win over Arsenal.

Hazard made the winner for Marcos Alonso and his display will make Chelsea even more determined to keep him – with Real Madrid hovering and the Spanish transfer window still open until the end of the month.

The little superstar is being eased back after his World Cup exploits and exertions by new boss Sarri, whose side are top of the Premier League after two matches.

Hazard said: “I couldn’t wait to get on the pitch. And whether I am on for 15, 20 or 90 minutes, I do my best.

“The new boss wants us to play by having the ball and controlling matches and I can’t say there is anything wrong in doing that.

“I just want to play and have the ball at my feet.”

Match-winner Alonso added: “In the second half you saw the best team and we deserved the three points.”

Arsenal boss Unai Emery shrugged off his disappointment after losing for the second weekend running.

He said: “I am happy with the chances we created and with the reaction of the team after going two behind.

“But we needed to continue our first-half form in the second half.”. Match report: RESULT! P2-3 NOT IMPRESSED: Mourinho has had his say on City’s new series
